Saqqara & Abu Sir

    Saqqara is an ancient village complex in Egypt, an hour outside of Cairo, dating back to pre-dynastic Egypt. The area features several pyramids, and a beautiful alabaster altar nearby, from the Solar Temple of Ra. This altar is still largely intact and has a circle in the centre which represents the sun, flanked by four large alabaster cornerstones representing the four directions; north, south, east and west, representing the four elements.

    The retreat venue is very rustic and relaxed, With dorm style, accommodation, delicious, home-cooked, meals, and a beautiful Dome and garden, where we will be drumming and dancing. Retreat features:

    - Dof (frame drumming) with a sacred design ceremony
    - Daily healing Somatic movement and dance with Keti
    - Live Egyptian Music & Percussion with Sufi drummers
    - Sound healing and meditation
    - Visits to Saqqara and Abu Sir sacred sites

SAQQARA - Somatic Retreat Program

    Day 1 - 1st May: Check in 12 noon. Choose your Dof!
    Somatics for healing through the lens of Bellydance, Percussion lesson - Sufi dof rhythms on frame drum, Al Kawakib - Dance the Planets & Sufi Astrology, Sacred Signs & Designs - Decorate your Dof with Sepia ink.
    Day 2 - 2nd May: Sacred Temple Tour, Saqqara Pyramid with Egyptologist, Meditation, The story of Isis and Osiris - cosmology, dance and rhythms representing the 4 elements, Isis Lotus Dance - devotional dance with group performance with Nay (flutes)
    Day 3  - 3rd May: Gong bath and sound healing, Moon dance with Dofs/ Water God Osiris, Percussion lesson - darbuka rhythms plus Dof, Out for dinner at restaurant!
    Day 4 - 4th May:  Visit Alabaster Altar of Ra Meditation in the morning 
    Somatics and artistic embodiment, Scorpion Dance, Serkhet mythology the Scorpion Goddess, Dof & sound healing relaxation
    Day 5 -  5th May: Dof lesson, El Shams Sun Dance with Dofs
    Performance celebration evening with Sufi Tanoura - participants can perform!
